A
Little Story About a Man Named Vlad
Cindy
ran an ad with a picture of her hands in her hair, with a
title "Where's My Babushka?" (Sure, it's silly.
We're silly.) Here's one of the responses...
Cindy:
Isn't the name VLAD the original Dracula...Vlad the Impaler??
This poor lad must not have grown up around any Polish folks.
Someone had to fill him in! So natch' I had to write 'em back...ever
so briefly...
"Hey
Vlad: You are right about babuska...However, it does have
two meanings...It can be a Russian or Polish elderly woman/grandmother...It
also means a triangle shaped scarf worn by women on their
head...My grandmother was from Poland. She wore "babushkas"...so
I guess she was a Babushka in a Babushka!"
Lorina:
Vlad... yeah, right. I'm
sure it's Bill or Billy or Mac or Buddy.
I'm
just glad Mom stopped wearing babushkas... I remember she
wore one over her rollers when she used to pick me up from
school. Thank God for curling irons.
